Prophylaxis and Periodontics
Good oral hygiene helps preventing cavities, tartar build-up, and periodontal disease. Prophylaxis is a professional procedure for the removal of plaque and tartar that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach in routine tooth brushing.
Periodontal diseases take on different forms but are usually a result of a bacterial plaque accumulation on teeth and surrounding tissues, which lead to destruction of the supporting bone around natural teeth. Untreated, these diseases lead to alveolar bone loss, gum recession and, to date, continue to be the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Periodontal therapy aims to prevent, stabilize or withdraw periodontal disease.
